Nearly 8 in 10 Houston residents believe owning a home is a good way to build wealth, but Houston’s homeownership has been on the decline since the early 2000s. These and other findings will be discussed in a free webinar highlighting the 2024 State of Housing report from Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research, which will be released June 20.

Panelists for the event include Allison Hay, CEO of Houston Habitat for Humanity; Michael Nichols, director of housing and community development for the city of Houston; and Christa Stoneham, CEO and president of Houston Land Bank.

Previous State of Housing reports have tracked various housing indicators and captured the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the local housing market.
