More than 130 people from 48 institutions in a dozen countries attended the 2023 Rice University Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) Workshop Sept. 11-15 at the Bioscience Research Collaborative. The event included tutorials, training sessions, vendor demonstrations and presentations about the latest research and advances in SIMS, a technique for analyzing the surfaces of solid materials and thin films. The workshop’s lead organizer was Rice research scientist Tanguy Terlier, vice president of the North American SIMS Society and director of Rice’s Time-of-Flight SIMS Laboratory, a facility made available to academic and industry researchers via Rice’s Shared Equipment Authority.
