Rice celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with a vigil and panel discussion on social justice Jan. 15, followed by participating in Houston's 45th annual Original MLK Day Parade Jan. 16. The events were held in conjunction with the university's Black Student Association.
Established in the early 1970s, the Black Student Union, later known as the Black Student Association, was created to foster a safe and welcoming environment for Black students at the university. Since its inception, BSA has offered many opportunities for Owls to get involved in outreach, social initiatives and cultural events.
