Two-day event at the Ion being held in collaboration with NASA

Rice’s AI Houston Institute, in collaboration with NASA, will host the two-day International Workshop on AI-Powered Space, covering the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI) theory and practice in core space and extended space at the university’s tech hub, the Ion.

HOUSTON – (Nov. 9, 2023) – Rice’s AI Houston Institute, in collaboration with NASA, will host the two-day International Workshop on AI-Powered Space from Nov. 13-14, covering the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI) theory and practice in core space and extended space at the university’s tech hub, the Ion.

Rice’s AI Houston Institute, in collaboration with NASA, will host the two-day International Workshop on AI-Powered Space, covering the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI) theory and practice in core space and extended space at the university’s tech hub, the Ion.

This workshop will bring together business leaders with a technology focus, technologists, academicians and startups. Featured speakers and panelists include experts from NASA, Blue Origin, Axiom Space, Intuitive Machines, Microsoft Federal and Accenture as well as startups and academia.

Talks and panel discussions will address some of the most complex challenges facing the space industry, including:

  • the design, operation and maintenance of reusable spacecrafts

  • the impact of long-tenure space journey on the health of astronauts

  • the impact of microgravity on scientific experiments

  • the impact of satellites on communication, defense, weather forecast and sustainability

A fireside chat will also be held with associate director Doug Terrier and chief technologist Nicholas Skytland from the NASA Johnson Space Center.
