Rice University Emergency Medical Services (REMS) recently celebrated Collegiate EMS Week, a multiday recognition of campus-based EMS teams that provides an annual opportunity to highlight their activities and educate their communities about lifesaving skills.
This year’s campus festivities included:
• Free hands-only CPR and stop-the-bleed training at the Jones Graduate School of Business
• A campuswide blood drive
• A free vital signs check
• REMS trivia on the quad, including relay races with EMS gear
• Uniform Day, when the REMS members wore their gear to increase awareness of the more than 60 undergraduate volunteers.
Elizabeth Pan, a REMS senior lieutenant, shared her excitement for the week.
“Serving in REMS has been the most defining and meaningful part of my undergraduate experience,” the Sid Rich College student said. “It is extremely rewarding to not only keep our campus safe but also engage with this special community through fun activities and events like the ones we organized during Collegiate EMS Week. I have immensely appreciated this opportunity to connect with the people around me, teach lifesaving skills to our campus and engage with a passionate group of volunteers who are equally dedicated to serve our campus.”
