Rice community members gathered Feb. 15 to honor Yousif Shamoo for his work as vice provost for research over the last seven years. Shamoo, the Ralph and Dorothy Looney Professor of BioSciences, stepped down in January to return to fulltime teaching and focus on his laboratory research. During his tenure as vice provost for research, Shamoo expanded Rice’s research infrastructure, carried out a range of big and small building projects across campus, launched the Creative Venture Funds, increased sponsored research and much more.
