Phil Bedient, director of the Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters (SSPEED) Center, spoke about inland flood risk and analysis on the first day of the center’s April 28-29 conference on “Post-Harvey Climate and Flood Impacts on the Built Environment” at Rice’s Anderson-Clarke Center. More than 150 researchers, engineers, city planners and others attended the conference, the 10th from the center. The conference featured more than 30 academic, consulting and governmental experts who discussed coastal protection, the assessment and modeling of flood and storm risks, climate impacts and related topics from a perspective almost five years after Hurricane Harvey.
