Rice runner Grace Forbes has been named Conference USA’s 2021-22 Michael L. Slive Female Athlete of the Year, the league announced June 30.
Forbes is the second Owl to win the women's award, joining back-to-back winner Erica Ogwumike (basketball) in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
As a sophomore, Forbes repeated as the C-USA champion in cross-country — the first to do so since former Owl Cali Roper won it in 2014-15 — then won league track and field titles in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, and capped her season by earning first-team All-America honors for a second straight year by placing second in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Track and Field Championships last month. She was also named to the C-USA All-Academic team.
Forbes swept the C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Year and C-USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year awards in 2021-22, the second consecutive year she's accomplished that feat.
