Rice was placed in Waco for the first and second rounds of the NCAA women's volleyball tournament and will start against the University of Colorado Boulder Dec. 1.

The Owls (26-3), the champions of Conference USA who are in the tournament for a fifth straight season, earned the No. 5 seed in the Louisville Regional. The Buffaloes (20-10) are an at-large selection to the tournament out of the Pac-12 Conference.

The winner of their 4:30 p.m. match will face either No. 4 seed and host Baylor University (23-6) of the Big 12 Conference or Stephen F. Austin State University (26-4) of the Western Athletic Conference in the second round at 7 p.m. Dec. 2.

"It's always exciting to see your name pop up on the big screen," Rice head coach Genny Volpe told RiceOwls.com following the selection show. "We're excited to go and play at Baylor. We're just ready to get to work. Next up is scouting Colorado and getting back in the gym. We just want to keep this going as long as possible."
