The Rice Workshop on Improving Mobility with Low Vision took place July 29 at the BioScience Research Collaborative and online. Hosted by Pat DeLucia, professor of psychological sciences and associate dean for research in the School of Social Sciences, the event focused on an issue that afflicts more than 2 billion people across the globe. It brought together nationally and internationally recognized scholars, clinicians and community service providers to discuss strategies for helping people with low vision, with a particular emphasis on mobility and collision avoidance during activities such as walking, crossing streets and driving.
The event was sponsored by the Rice Office of Research’s Creative Ventures Funds through a workshop grant, and by the university’s Educational and Research Initiatives for Collaborative Health (ENRICH) advisory group.
