Rice hosted the 31st annual conference of the Society of Environmental Journalists from March 30 to April 3.

After days of workshops, local tours and panel discussions headlined by prominent environmental reporters as well as Rice experts and leaders — including President David Leebron; Provost Reginald DesRosches; Severe Storm Prevention, Education and Evacuation from Disaster (SSPEED) Center Director Philip Bedient and Co-director Jim Blackburn; and Kinder Institute for Urban Research Director Bill Fulton — attendees descended on Rice’s campus the evening of April 2 for a fun-filled outdoor dinner and mixer.

Following performances and exhibitions by Gulf Coast artists from Diluvial Houston’s arts incubator, guests were led by the Hustlers Brass Band through campus. The night was capped off with a performance from The Gary-Michael Dahl Band.
