Rice University will welcome alumni, students, faculty, staff and families for Owl Together, a celebration of its past, present and future with an eclectic mix of events to celebrate everyone involved in the campus community.

Part homecoming, part class reunion and part family weekend, the 48 hours promise something for everyone.

Douglas Brinkley, the Katherine Tsanoff Brown Professor in Humanities and author of "American Moonshot," will deliver a Rice Faculty Keynote Lecture concerning John F. Kennedy and the great space race on the heels of the 60th anniversary of his historic speech at Rice Stadium. Brinkley’s talk is at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Later that day, at 3 p.m., President Reginald DesRoches will discuss the future of the university at his first town hall for alumni at Tudor Fieldhouse.

On Oct. 29, activities begin with a student leadership forum at 9:30 a.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse. Student leaders will discuss opportunities for Owls to excel outside of the classroom as they share their own stories and experiences.

The Owl Together Tailgate & Family Fest will follow from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Rice Stadium, with pregame activities for the whole family before the Owls football team takes on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers.

After the game, the annual Rice Ring Celebration will commence at 4:30 p.m. at Huff House. The Rice Ring is one of the university’s longest standing traditions, dating back to the original owl-inscribed rings of the inaugural 1916 graduating class. The outdoor reception will involve a Champagne toast honoring the ring recipients with President DesRoches.

The weekend will also be peppered with several residential college events, receptions and other events of interest. For a full list with locations and times, visit the Owl Together website.
