Rice chemist James Tour is among 32 investigators in five countries who will collaborate on the “Mend the Gap!” project to heal spinal cord injuries. The project based at the University of British Columbia won a $24 million grant in the Canadian government’s New Frontiers in Research Fund 2020 Transformation competition. The Tour lab developed TexasPEG, a compound containing graphene nanoribbons shown through experiments to restore conduction to injured spinal cords in rodent models.
