NSF director to speak on education, innovation at Rice event

HOUSTON – (Oct. 14, 2022) – National Science Foundation Director Sethuraman Panchanathan will join Rice University science and education experts Oct. 21 to examine how research innovation can enhance Americans’ quality of life through strategic partnerships, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

As part of Rice President Reginald DesRoches’ inauguration celebration, Panchanathan will share insights from his career and his efforts to foster policies that address societal challenges through innovation in science and technology.

What: Baker Institute for Public Policy event, “Innovation, Science Education and the Enhancement of Americans’ Quality of Life.”

Who: Panchanathan, Rice Provost Amy Dittmar and Rice Vice President for Research Ramamoorthy Ramesh, with John Hutchinson, Rice professor of chemistry and associate co-chair for graduate studies, and David Satterfield, Baker Institute director and former U.S. ambassador to Lebanon and Turkey, providing introductory remarks.

When: Friday, Oct. 21, 1-3 p.m. Panchanathan’s lecture, which begins at 2:10 p.m. and will be followed by a Q&A session, is preceded by presentations by Dittmar and Ramesh beginning at 1:10.
