The ConocoPhillips Applied Mathematics Program (AMP!) at Rice held its closing ceremony for the year, the AMPosium!, hosting past and current participants at the BioScience Research Collaborative on April 9. The yearlong professional development program offers innovative strategies to science and mathematics teachers in grades 5 through 9.
The event incorporated presentations, posters and talks by Alexander Byrd, Rice’s vice provost for diversity equity and inclusion, and Casandra Corley, IT manager at ConocoPhillips. Among the honorees below, accepting their AMP! Innovation Awards from Ty Johnson, senior adviser of sponsorships and STEM programs for ConocoPhillips, and Matthew Cushing, R-STEM executive director, are Lalita Khemka of Daily Elementary, Charity Welty of All Nations Community School and Allen Schagene of The Shlenker School.
