Rice’s Moody Center for the Arts premiered its fall exhibition Sept. 18 and 19 in a two-night, socially distanced opening; registration spots for both nights booked up quickly.
Music was provided by DJ Sun on the Moody’s patio and Houston Poet Laureate Leslie Contreras Schwartz performed a new poem-sound piece in response to the exhibition Sept 18.
“States of Mind: Art and American Democracy” is timed to coincide with the 2020 presidential election to encourage dialogue around social and political issues and features the work of over 30 artists.
Two of those artists will take part in “Artists-in-Dialogue” Zoom conversations later this semester — Coco Fusco on Oct. 8 and Catherine Opie on Oct. 22. “States of Mind” runs through Dec. 19. (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
