Peter Hotez, a renowned vaccine scientist and physician who’s also a fellow in disease and poverty at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, will join Rice infectious disease specialist Yousif Shamoo to discuss COVID-19 vaccine developments in a free webinar March 12.
Friday’s webinar, part of the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies' OpenRICE series, will address the science behind the vaccines, common vaccine concerns and myths and the new Biden administration’s impact on vaccine rollout. They will also discuss what lies ahead in the pandemic, including the threat of COVID-19 variants and the likelihood of attaining herd immunity.

Hotez is a professor of pediatrics and molecular virology at Baylor College of Medicine and co-director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development. He is Baylor's Endowed Chair in Tropical Pediatrics.
Shamoo is a professor of biosciences and vice provost for research at Rice. He is a member of the Rice University Crisis Management Advisory Committee, for which he provides COVID-19 forecasting and other scientific guidance regarding infectious diseases.
