Rice School of Architecture students Shiyu Jin and Beixi Zhu received a merit award in the Fort Worth Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' annual statewide Excellence in Architecture Student Design Awards Jury. The contest recognizes outstanding work by students from all of Texas' accredited architecture schools. Jin and Zhu's "Complete Community" was one of five projects selected for contest recognition.

Postdoctoral fellows Melia Bonomo and Leo Elworth have won training fellowships from the National Library of Medicine's Training Program in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health and administered by the Gulf Coast Consortia. Bonomo will train with Rice faculty mentors Rob Raphael and Santiago Segarra and Elworth will train with Rice faculty mentors Laura Stadler and Todd Treangen.

Karin Broker, the Visual and Dramatic Arts Professor of Printmaking and Drawing, has been named the 2020 recipient of the Honorary Member of the Council Award from the Southern Graphics Council International (SGCI). The annual award is bestowed to those who have performed outstanding service to SGCI, the largest printmaking organization in North America. Broker will be honored during SGCI’s virtual MakeReady event April 10-11.

Ruth López Turley, director of the Houston Education Research Consortium, professor of sociology and associate director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, participated in a March 12 educational panel hosted by the University of Texas. "Forging a Path Toward Pre-K-12 Students’ Thriving" focused on strategies to support students' educational and emotional needs, especially amid the uncertainties brought about by the pandemic.
