HOUSTON – (March 2, 2020) – A panel of experts will gather at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy to discuss the stem cell therapy landscape. The experts will highlight the treatments available today, describe why even negative clinical data can lead to new interventions and evaluate recent incidents of unregulated stem cell use harming patients.
The March 6 event, part of an annual policy lecture series co-sponsored by the Baker Institute's Center for Health and Biosciences and the Texas Heart Institute, is open to the public. Registration is required at www.bakerinstitute.org/events/2052.
Who: Panelists Laura Beil, freelance journalist and host of the "Dr. Death" and "Bad Batch" podcasts, and Dr. Emerson Perin, medical director of the Texas Heart Institute.
Kirstin Matthews, fellow in science and technology policy at the Baker Institute, will serve as moderator.

Stem cell therapies offer great hope to patients with debilitating illnesses and injuries, according to event organizers. However, only a limited number of therapies are approved for clinical use.
