Houston middle-school students from the KIPP Courage and Introduction to Research and Innovative Design in Engineering Academy (iRIDE) programs visited Rice Feb. 21 to take part in the Engineers Week program sponsored by the Brown School of Engineering and Rice’s Office of STEM Engagement. The students visited the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, the Verduzco Lab for materials applications in energy, sustainability, remediation and health and Rice’s National Science Foundation-funded Nanosystems Engineering Research Center for Nanotechnology-Enabled Water Treatment in Ryon Lab, above and below.
The students also toured the campus, participated in a “Fun With Chemistry” session at Dell Butcher Hall and heard from Reginald DesRoches, dean of the Brown School and incoming Rice provost.
