Baker Hall, home of Rice's Baker Institute for Public Policy.

HOUSTON -- (Feb. 5, 2020) – Texas’ premier investment education and networking program is coming to Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business.

The Texas Investment Portfolio Symposium (TIPS) brings together professionals, students and faculty from more than 40 Texas and Southwestern universities to learn about the world of investments. The 17th annual event is scheduled for Feb. 21-22.

Rice, along with CFA Society Houston (CFAH), CFA Societies Texas (CFAT) and CFA Society Louisiana (CFAL), will host the symposium’s first extended, two-day conference.

The first day of sessions will include networking opportunities and keynote speeches from Joel Greenblatt, chief investment officer of Gotham Asset Management; Jerry O’Brien, CEO and CIO of O’Brien-Staley Partners; and Gabriela Santos, global market strategist at JP Morgan Asset Management. The second day of events features a keynote speech by Pearce Hammond, managing director of Simmons Energy, and two student competitions:

-The CFA Institute Research Challenge includes schools from across the Southwest region, competing for a chance to represent the region in the finals. Eight teams will analyze, write and present investment recommendation reports on a publicly traded company.

-The Portfolio Managers Competition will be similar to a final pitch that all investment firms make when competing for an institutional account. The competition consists of 10-minute presentations by student teams representing each finalist school.

The two-day summit is open to the public. Registration is $99 for professionals, $75 for CFA Society and Rice MBA Networking List members and $25 for students and faculty. For the agenda and to register, visit https://business.rice.edu/TIPS/.
