The Rice Electric Vehicle Team (REV) recently met with Eric Ernst, the head of technology for auto racing series Formula E, to discuss the team's progress toward competing in the Shell Eco-marathon Americas in April.

The Shell Eco-marathon is an energy-efficiency competition for students that aims to inspire scientists and engineers of the future. REV, a student-run organization that designs and constructs electric-powered efficiency vehicles and enters local, national and international competitions, made its debut in the event in 2012, placing second in the solar prototype category.

Ernst provided an overview of Formula E’s growth and its vision for the future — which might include a race in Houston this decade.
