Rice University has been ramping up COVID-19 testing in advance of students returning for O-Week and the start of in-person and online classes Aug. 24.

Thanks to the help of 84 Rice employees who volunteered to staff the testing sites across campus, over 4,000 tests have been administered to Rice faculty, staff and students since Aug. 3. That includes tests for the nearly 900 freshmen who arrived Aug. 15 and 16.

An additional five Rice employees have been volunteering as testing schedulers and 17 have volunteered to serve as contact tracers.

While new students underwent rapid COVID-19 testing at the Waltrip Indoor Training Center over the weekend, testing sites for faculty, staff and other Rice community members remain open at The Roost at Reckling Park, the East Gym in Tudor Fieldhouse and the Abercrombie Engineering Laboratory.

Those returning to campus are encouraged to sign up for a testing appointment.
