Eden King, an associate professor of psychological sciences at Rice, is a winner of this year’s Scholarly Achievement Award from the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management for a paper she co-authored, “Work-Life Ideologies: The Contextual Basis and Consequences of Beliefs About Work and Life.” The award is given each year to the author or authors of the most significant paper on human resource management published in a recognized journal available to division members, according to the academy.
The Balourdet String Quartet, comprised of Shepherd School of Music students Justin DeFilippis (violin), Angela Jiye Bae (violin), Benjamin Zannoni (viola) and Russell Houston (cello), won the gold medal in the senior string division at this year's Fischoff competition, the country's biggest chamber music contest. The quartet received a cash prize of $10,000 and will participate in the Emilia Romagna Festival in Italy next summer. This fall, the quartet will join the New England Conservatory Professional String Quartet Program.
