Former Rice women's basketball player Erica Ogwumike is the first athlete to earn back-to-back Female Conference USA Athlete of the Year awards, the league office announced Tuesday.

Ogwumike is just the second athlete to win multiple C-USA Athlete of the Year awards, joining former University of Texas at El Paso track and field star Anthony Rotich (2013-15).

Ogwumike, who graduated in May and was selected in the WNBA Draft in April, helped the Owls win their second straight C-USA regular season title last season before the COVID-19 pandemic cut the campaign short. She led C-USA in scoring (19.0 points per game) and made the C-USA All-Defensive Team while earning Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American honorable mention and becoming the fifth player in league history to win consecutive C-USA Women's Basketball Player of the Year awards.
