Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts will be closed until further notice and all public events scheduled for March and April have been canceled, executive director Alison Weaver announced March 13.
The James Turrell Twilight Epiphany Skyspace is also closed to the public in response to concerns about the coronavirus.
“Over the next few weeks, we will continually assess the situation to determine when we will safely be able to reopen to the public,” Weaver said. “Although we must necessarily pause our in-person engagement with the arts at Rice, our community is resilient.”
The closures come amid similar preventive measures across the Rice campus. Next door to the Moody, Rice Cinema has canceled all screenings through the end of March and the Rice Media Center gallery has suspended opening receptions through April 30.
“In these uncertain times, we remain committed to family, friends and the arts as a means of understanding our rapidly evolving world,” Weaver said. “We look forward to sharing more creative adventures together again soon.”
