The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says getting a flu shot is more important than ever amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and Rice faculty and staff will have an opportunity to do so on campus starting this week — including a drive-up option to minimize contact with others.

Flu shots are available on campus starting Oct. 2.

Flu shots will be available without an appointment Oct. 2 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Kyle Morrow Room in Fondren Library. There is no cost, but employees must wear a mask and show a Rice ID. High-dose vaccines will be available for employees over 65.

Appointments are required for subsequent vaccination events:

-Oct. 14, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Cambridge Office Building, fifth floor of garage (drive-up)

-Oct. 15, 7-10 a.m., Cambridge Office Building, first floor conference room

-Oct. 15, 7 a.m-4 p.m., Cambridge Office Building, fifth floor of garage (drive-up)

-Oct. 19, 7 a.m-4 p.m., Cambridge Office Building, fifth floor of garage (drive-up)

To make an appointment and for more information, visit https://people.rice.edu/benefits-rewards/wellnessrice/seasonal-flu-shots. When registering as a new user, your employee ID number must be preceded by a lowercase "e" and leading zeroes must be included. A spouse or other eligible dependent over 18 can also be scheduled for a flu shot.

Employees insured through Rice can also obtain free flu shots from their doctor's office (free if administered by a nurse), CVS, Walgreens or an Express Scripts in-network pharmacy (log in and select “Find a Pharmacy” under the “Prescriptions” menu; request that the pharmacy process the vaccination through Express Scripts).
