Rice staff members Fernando Gonzalez and Jay Lee were honored with the RICE MILE Award in January.
Gonzalez, a systems administrator II in Campus Services, was commended for his talent, skills, motivation, professionalism and dedication to Rice. In a letter nominating him for the award, he was praised for his eagerness to help with staff computer and technical issues, whether small or large.
“I really believe that great motivation is simply in Fernando’s nature, built into his character,” the letter said. “He takes great pride in his work. He sees his work as contributing to Rice’s success.”
Lee, a support systems specialist II in Campus Services, was lauded for his fantastic customer service and going the extra mile while covering extra clients and buildings when needed.
“He took the time to ensure I had all programs loaded on (my) laptop and they were working properly before leaving,” his nominator wrote. “And, again, this is not his normal building to service as he has his own buildings he services, but he jumped in right away to switch my desktop to a new laptop.”
All levels of staff are eligible for consideration for the RICE MILE Award and can be nominated by peers, colleagues, co-workers or supervisors as long as they have at least one year of service and are in good standing. Nominations must be submitted through the RICE MILE Award online form and require approval from senior leadership in the nominee’s school or division.
