Brevity is the soul of wit: Rice Theatre presents 'All in the Timing'

Collection of six short comedic plays to run Feb. 28-March 7

Rice Theatre spring 2020 show

HOUSTON – (Jan. 30, 2020) – This spring, Rice University Theatre will present David Ives’ collection of short comedies, “All in the Timing,” at Hamman Hall, 6100 Main St. Showtimes are Feb. 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., March 1 at 3 p.m., and March 5-7 at 8 p.m.

“All in the Timing” is a series of six plays, each running less than 15 minutes. The plays offer comedic, insightful and reflective commentaries on life through a set of unusual occurrences.

Ives’ wit and charm shines through in the questions the plays ask. Could three monkeys write "Hamlet"? (“Words, Words, Words.”) What do you do when you find yourself stuck in an alternate universe? (“The Philadelphia.”)

“All in the Timing” will be directed by Jack Young, artistic director of the Houston Shakespeare Festival and head of the MFA Professional Actor Training Program at the University of Houston. Young’s recent directing credits include “Ring Around the Moon” (University of Houston), “Comedy of Errors” (Arkansas Shakespeare Festival) and “Julius Caesar” (Houston Shakespeare Festival).

Mark Krouskop, lecturer and production manager for the Rice Theatre program, will be the set designer for “All in the Timing.” Krouskop recently designed the set for Rice's fall 2019 production of “As You Like It” and was responsible for the outdoor set of Rice’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the raining elevator for “Eurydice.”

Costumes will be designed by Rice students majoring in Visual and Dramatic Arts.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and are available in advance by calling 713-348-4005.
