Rice University’s football team will open its 2026 season at home Sept. 5, welcoming Houston Christian University to Rice Stadium for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The game marks the first meeting between the two Houston programs.

O.J. Brigance, a former standout linebacker at Rice and at the professional level who responded to a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by creating The Brigance Brigade, which provides support and other resources for the families facing a similar reality, passed away on Monday at the age of 56.
