2 staff members honored with RICE MILE Award

Rice staff members Ray Jones and David Toombs have been honored with the RICE MILE Award in March.

Jones, an IT support specialist in campus services, was nominated for his outstanding customer service and efficiency. One nominator noted that Jones provided “the best IT experience of anywhere I have worked.”

“Ray is thoughtful and proactive, and he strives for excellence in everything he does here at Rice,” another nominator wrote. “He provides first-class technology service to everyone that he supports.”

Toombs, executive assistant in the offices of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research, was honored for his entrepreneurial spirt in integrating the two offices and his willingness to adopt and adapt new technology, according to a letter nominating him for the award.

“His integrity and positive energy make him a very valuable part of our office and we appreciate his ideas, his positive attitude and his drive,” a nominator wrote. “He has gone the extra mile and been proactive in seeing what needs to be done and what could be done to make the integration process positive and efficient for all of us.”

All levels of staff are eligible for consideration for the RICE MILE Award and can be nominated by peers, colleagues, co-workers or supervisors as long as they have at least one year of service and are in good standing. Nominations must be submitted through the RICE MILE Award online nomination form and require approval from senior leadership in the nominee’s school or division.
