Rice’s incoming class of international students gathered Aug. 16 in Sewall Hall for breakout sessions to catch up with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) following their first week on campus.

International undergraduate and exchange students arrived in Houston Aug. 10 to participate in the International Preparation and Regulatory Education Program (I-PREP) prior to O-Week. During this time, OISS staff assisted students with reviewing immigration regulations, shopping for personal items and bedding, purchasing cellphones and setting up bank accounts.

At the Aug. 16 breakout sessions, students had the opportunity to ask OISS staff dozens of follow-up questions on life in Houston, ranging from how to obtain a Texas driver’s license and a METRORail pass to where they could find the nearest beach and what “tubing the river” means.
