Digital Frontiers 2016 conference, THATCamp to gather digital humanities experts at Rice Sept. 22-24

HOUSTON – (Sept. 1, 2016) – Leading digital humanities experts from across the country will gather at Rice University Sept. 22-23 for the Digital Frontiers 2016 conference and Sept. 24 for The Humanities and Technology Camp (THATCamp). A project of the University of North Texas Libraries, the annual events bring together scholars and students, librarians and archivists, genealogists and public historians as well as community members to share their experience of using digital resources in the humanities.

Roopika Risam, assistant professor of English at Salem State University and an expert on postcolonial digital humanities, will present the Digital Frontiers 2016 opening keynote address, “Burning Down the Tent: New Futures for Social Justice and Digital Humanities,” at 9:50 a.m. Sept. 22. Patrick Meier, an internationally recognized expert and consultant on humanitarian technology and innovation, will give the closing keynote on “From ‘I, Robot’ to WeRobotics: Humanitarian Robotics in Action” at 2:45 p.m. Sept. 23.

Co-hosted by Rice’s Humanities Research Center and Fondren Library, the events are open to the public. Registration for Digital Frontiers 2016 is $75 for nonstudents and $35 for full-time undergraduate and graduate students; registration for THATCamp is free but limited to the first 50 people who sign up. Where: Digital Frontiers will take place in the BioScience Research Collaborative, first-floor auditorium, 6500 Main St. Parking is available in the BRC garage located on Dryden Road between Main and Travis streets. THATCamp will take place in Fondren Library, 6100 Main St. Parking is available in the Founder’s Court Visitor Lot near Lovett Hall.
