“The Jones School has incredible potential to grow in national and international stature,” says Peter E. Veruki. “And that’s why I left Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management, where I’d been very happy. But the challenge of helping another great school become better known appeals to me. I’ve derived much satisfaction in helping make Vanderbilt a national school, and coming to Rice will give me the chance to work with Gil Whitaker as he reshapes the Jones Graduate School of Management.”
Veruki joined the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management as executive director of admissions and career planning in October after 11 years as director of career planning and placement at Vanderbilt. In 1988-89 the Owen Graduate School of Management had a regional profile. Eighty percent of its graduates stayed in the South; 30 percent of them in Nashville, Tenn., itself. Today it’s a nationally-recognized school as shown by where its graduates work. Three percent of the class of 1999 accepted jobs in Nashville, and only 24 percent of the graduates stayed in the South.
“The Jones School needs to be more than the premier school for Texas placements–Texas can’t keep all the talent,” said Veruki. “In three years I expect half the class will be accepting jobs in New York, Silicon Valley, Chicago, Atlanta, and students will be coming to the school from these areas.”
“Peter Veruki brings to the Jones School success in all the areas required to improve our national presence–the admission of students from throughout the country and the career placement of our graduates in major business centers nationally and internationally,” said Dean Gil Whitaker. “We’re very pleased that he’s joined our efforts to make the Jones School one of the nation’s premier business schools.”
Author of four books published by Adams Media Corp., “Job Interview Pro,” “Job Interview Almanac,” “Hiring Top Performers” and “250 Job Interview Questions,” and numerous articles in professional publications, Veruki was vice president and on the board of directors of the Middle Atlantic Placement Association; vice president and on the board of governors of the College Placement Council (currently known as the National Association of Colleges and Employers), a founding board member of the Career Services Council and a member of the International MBA Placement Group. He has spoken at more than 70 seminars and at regional and national professional meetings and lectured at MBA schools including Stanford, the University of Virginia and Cornell. He has been a consultant to a number of major organizations, including General Dynamics, Bankers Trust, Ingram Micro, United Nations, the U.S. Navy, PepsiCo and Price Waterhouse, on interviewing, design of recruitment literature, marketing and media programs and professional staffing.
Before Vanderbilt, he was the vice president and manager, college relations, for Chemical Bank; assistant dean and director, career planning and placement, the University of Virginia; associate producer and director of college relations, Ziff-Davis Publishing Co.; and director, college relations and professional staffing, Bethlehem Steel Corp. Veruki has an MBA in finance from Lehigh University and bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College.
