Klineberg honored at annual luncheon for 35 years of surveying Houston

Rice’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research Founding Director and sociologist Stephen Klineberg presented findings from the 35th annual Kinder Houston Area Survey at the annual Kinder Institute Luncheon May 2, held at the Hilton-Americas in downtown Houston. The event, which was rescheduled from April 19 due to inclement weather, attracted more than 1,200 attendees – a record turnout. The event also featured remarks from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

In addition to presenting the annual survey findings, Klineberg was honored with the inaugural Kinder Urban Visionary Award, presented by Rice President David Leebron. Named for the founding contributors of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, the award recognizes individuals who have positively impacted the urban stage at the international, national, regional or local level. The Kinder Institute also announced the creation of the Stephen L. Klineberg Award, to be presented annually beginning next year to honor individuals who have made or are making a lasting impact on the Greater Houston area.
