Rice hosting conference for student affairs officers from COFHE schools

About 40 chief student affairs officers from schools that are members of the Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE) will be on campus Nov. 8-10 for a student and academic services conference planned by Rice’s Dean of Undergraduates Office.

Rice is a member of COFHE, an organization of 35 highly selective, private liberal arts colleges and universities that are committed to meeting the full demonstrated need of admitted students. COFHE serves as a research think tank that collects data and performs policy analysis focusing on issues of access, affordability and assessment in relation to undergraduate education, admissions, financial aid and the financing of higher education.

Among the topics that will be addressed during the conference are the challenges and opportunities of social media on campus, student activism, prevention of sexual assault, campus climate surveys, undocumented students and support for first-generation and low-income students.

Rice President David Leebron is chairman of the COFHE Board of Directors and will host a reception and dinner for the conference participants.

During the conference, attendees will have a chance to tour the campus and attend the sunset light show at James Turrell’s “Twilight Epiphany” Skyspace at Rice and the “Mark Rothko: A Retrospective” exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
