Website offers info about ‘Campus Carry’

The Staff Advisory Committee is gathering comments from staff regarding Texas Senate Bill 11, more commonly known as “Campus Carry.” The bill authorizes a concealed handgun license holder to carry a concealed handgun on the campus of a public or private university, effective Aug. 1, 2016. Private universities have the option to opt out after consulting with students, staff and faculty.

Rice has created a small working group to meet with the university’s established constituent organizations — the Faculty Senate, the Student Association, the Graduate Student Association and the Staff Advisory Committee — to explain the law and seek input before a decision is made.

A website — — provides information about the law and the process the university will follow. Members of the Rice community must use their Rice User ID and password to access the website. Links to sites for commenting on the bill are available under the “Contacts” section.
