Provost George McLendon will speak at Houston 2035, a daylong conference that will be hosted by the Texas Medical Center May 21. The conference is designed to project 20 years and beyond to explore the future of Houston’s high-tech economy and the city’s role as a hub for global innovation. Other members of the Rice faculty who are speaking at the event are Richard Baraniuk, founder and director of Rice University-based OpenStax College; Naomi Halas, director of Rice’s Lab for Nanophotonics & Quantum Institute; and Stephen Klineberg, founding director of Rice’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research. The conference will be held at the Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute, 2450 Holcombe Blvd., Suite X.
