Shepherd School students to perform at Kennedy Center Feb. 16

Eight students representing Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music will perform in concert at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Their performance is part of The Conservatory Project, a Kennedy Center program showcasing the best young musical talent from the nation’s leading conservatories, colleges and universities.

The concert will include performances by John Turman, French horn, and Chabrelle Williams, soprano, with pianist Scott Cuellar accompanying both; Christopher McKiggan, piano, performing a work by Shepherd School student composer Yuxin Ouyang; and the Rolston Quartet, Rice’s graduate string quartet-in-residence, featuring Luri Lee and Jaewon Bang on violin, Hezekiah Leung on viola and Jonathan Lo on cello.

This is the 12th year that Shepherd School students have been invited to perform as part of the project; the Shepherd School is one of only eight schools initially chosen for the program when it launched in 2004.

The concert is free and open to the public, and the event will be webcast at http://www.kennedy-center.org/explorer/live/.
