EPA’s new carbon emissions standards topic at Rice’s Baker Institute Dec. 12

HOUSTON – (Dec. 8, 2014) – Megan Ceronsky, a leading climate change expert at the Environmental Defense Fund, will speak at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Dec. 12 on the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed national standards to address carbon emissions from fossil fuel-fired power plants. This Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Who: Megan Ceronsky, director of regulatory policy and senior attorney in the Environmental Defense Fund’s Domestic Climate and Air Program.

Regina Buono, the Baker Institute’s Baker Botts Fellow in Energy and Environmental Regulatory Affairs, will provide introductory remarks.

What: A presentation titled “The EPA’s Clean Power Plan: Ambitiously Optimistic?”

When: Friday, Dec. 12. Lunch will be served at noon; Ceronsky’s presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Where: Rice University, James A. Baker III Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

Ceronsky will discuss the framework proposed by the EPA and the options available to Texas and other states in designing their compliance plans, which include deploying renewable energy and demand-side energy efficiency and shifting utilization away from higher-emitting power plants to lower-emitting power plants.

Ceronsky’s presentation is the second in a series of Center for Energy Studies lectures addressing climate change policy.
