Ferguson protest, Die In

More than 150 students, staff and faculty gathered around Willy’s Statue in the Academic Quad during noon hour Nov. 25 for a student-organized “Die In” in response to the verdict for the grand jury case involving Officer Darren Wilson, who shot Michael Brown Jr. in Ferguson, Mo., last summer. Participants lay on the ground with chalk outlines of their body as if they were dead or held signs with messages like “Black lives matter” and “A legal system rooted in racism will never have justice.” Students also organized a candlelight vigil Dec. 4 in the Academic Quad in response to the New York grand jury’s ruling not to indict anyone in the homicide of Eric Garner.
