The South Texas section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers gave out its top annual awards Oct. 9, and Rice’s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering made a clean sweep. George Hirasaki, research professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, and Lisa Biswal, associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering and of materials science and nanoengineering, won the Best Fundamental Paper Award; Matteo Pasquali, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, of materials science and nanoengineering and of chemistry, received the Best Applied Paper Award; Kenneth Cox, professor in the practice of chemical and biomolecular engineering, earned the Distinguished Service Award; and Trevor Rice, who earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Rice in 2011, got the Outstanding Young Professional Award.
