People, papers and presentations

The Women Chemists Committee (WCC) of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has named chemistry graduate student Anneli Hoggard one of eight national recipients of the Eli Lilli/WCC Travel Award. The honor provides funding for female undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral fellows to travel to a national ACS meeting and present their research. Hoggard is a member of the lab of Stephan Link, associate professor of chemistry and electrical and computer engineering. She was lead author of a recent ACS Nano paper on the optimization of electron transfer from surface plasmons in metal nanoparticles.

Angel Martí, assistant professor of chemistry and bioengineering, has won a New Investigator Award from the American Society for Photobiology. The award recognizes promising research by early career scientists in the photoscience-related fields of medicine, biology, chemistry and physics. He will accept the award and make a presentation at the society’s annual meeting in San Diego June 14-19. Martí is the second Rice faculty member to receive the honor; Rebekah Drezek, professor of bioengineering and of electrical and computer engineering, received a New Investigator Award in 2008.
