Owls flock to Rice Night at the rodeo

Rice University Owls decked out in cowboy boots and hats, shiny belts and bolo ties flocked to Reliant Stadium March 7 for Rice Night at the 2013 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Rice community got a head start on the day of rodeo action when the Staff Activities Committee hosted its monthly Lunch Bunch, which featured a talk by Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo volunteer April Wiggins and a Western-themed lunch at the West Servery.

That evening, President David Leebron, Sammy the Owl and other Rice notables saddled up and rode out into the rodeo arena as part of the opening procession at the stadium. Rice Night festivities concluded with a concert by Bruno Mars.
