Ramesh appointed senior associate dean of academic affairs at Jones School

K. Ramesh, professor of accounting at the Jones Graduate School of Business, has been named senior associate dean of academic affairs and will assume official responsibilities July 1.

“After careful consideration of the needs of the school as we face a new competitive landscape and following numerous conversations with senior faculty and many others throughout the school, I am pleased to announce that K. Ramesh has agreed to serve as the incoming senior associate dean,” said Bill Glick, dean of the Jones School. “He has strong support throughout the school and a very good understanding of the challenges ahead. He brings the skills and experiences to build on the successes achieved by Jeff Fleming.”

Ramesh will overlap with current Senior Associate Dean Jeff Fleming for the remainder of the fiscal year. Fleming previously served as a Jones School faculty member and will return to full-time teaching duties as the Fayez Sarofim Vanguard Professor of Finance.

“I am very pleased that Bill and my Jones School colleagues have given me this opportunity to serve the Jones Graduate School of Business,” Ramesh said. “It would be a challenge for me to fill the shoes of Jeff Fleming, but I look forward to working with Bill and my colleagues on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

Ramesh obtained his Ph.D. from Michigan State University and has previously served on the faculties of the business schools at Northwestern University, the University of Rochester, Penn State University and Michigan State University, where he was director of the accounting doctoral program. He was an academic fellow at the Office of the Chief Accountant, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, from 2007 to 2008. During his tenure as vice president at two leading economic consulting firms, Ramesh worked with top law firms, the Big Four audit firms, major corporations and governmental agencies.

Ramesh has published in a number of academic journals, including The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Accounting and Economics and Journal of Finance, and he and was a member of the editorial advisory and review board of the Accounting Review. He is the immediate past president of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section (FARS) of the American Accounting Association and is a member of the FARS Steering Board. Ramesh has won many accolades for his teaching excellence and was mentioned in the Business Week Guide to Best Business Schools as an outstanding faculty member at the University of Rochester.
