United Way Campaign close to 47 percent of goal

United Way progressIn its third week, the Rice United Way Campaign is almost 47 percent to its $175,000 goal. Pledges and contributions total just under $82,000. Currently, the Social Sciences Division leads the campus in funds raised with $13,480, and Investments leads in participation, with 36 percent.

When employees give to the United Way, their gifts support the entire community, more than any single cause. According to the United Way:

  • 79 percent of students in United Way programs are more successful in school.
  • 80 percent of seniors in the Greater Houston area received the help they needed to remain in their own homes.
  • More than 862,000 family members benefitted from United Way programs that strengthened families and neighborhoods.
  • More than 842,000 individuals were helped in the aftermath of natural disasters, domestic violence, job loss and other family emergencies.

Rice employees can make a pledge payable by payroll deductions spread over all paychecks in calendar (and tax) year 2013 by logging in to ESTHER (http://esther.rice.edu) and filling out the United Way form. To make a cash, check or credit card contribution (for tax year 2012), complete, print and mail the pledge form found at www.rice.edu/unitedway.
