Russell becomes president of AHEAD in Texas

Alan Russell, Rice’s director of Disability Support Services, begins his one-year term as president of the Association on Higher Education and Disability in Texas (AHEAD in Texas) June 1.

AHEAD in Texas is a nonprofit organization for professionals involved in the development of policy and in the provision of quality services to meet the needs of people with disabilities in all areas of higher education throughout the state. It provides training to higher education personnel through conferences, workshops, publications and consultations.

During his presidency, Russell plans to focus on the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act and its implications for disability service provision across university campuses. Russell said this focus will help him establish the best practice at Rice.

AHEAD in Texas is part of an international association that has more than 2,500 members throughout the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Ireland, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, Japan and Greece.
