Rice readies for rodeo fun

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are dusting off their western wear to help Rice embrace the Lone Star spirit as the university celebrates Rodeo Houston and “Go Texan Day” with a series of events.

Feb. 24

Members of the Rice community wore their boots, buckles and big hats to show their western pride today in honor of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s citywide “Go Texan Day.”

Feb. 25
President David Leebron, University Representative Ping Sun and Sammy the Owl will participate in the 2012 Rodeo Parade. The trio will be easy to spot in a Rice blue 1912 Model T decorated with centennial banners.

March 5
In honor of Rice Night at the Rodeo, Rice’s residential colleges will offer special Western-themed lunch menus for campus meal-plan holders.

The Staff Advisory Committee will host its monthly Lunch Bunch at 11:30 a.m. in McMurtry College Commons and will feature a speaker from the rodeo. The talk is free, but registration to purchase lunch from the servery is required. For more information, visit http://lunchbunch.rice.edu.

That evening, come out to Rice Night at the Rodeo at Reliant Stadium and watch for Rice representatives riding in the grand entry. Tickets to Rice Night at the Rodeo are available at hlsr.com.
