‘An Evening with Mignon R. Moore’ to feature discussion on issues of race and sexuality

Race and sexuality will be topics of discussion when Rice hosts “An Evening with Mignon R. Moore” Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in Herring Hall, Room 100.

Moore, a sociology professor at the University of California–Los Angeles and author of “Invisible Families: Gay Identities, Relationships and Motherhood among Black Women,” will discuss how people with multiple stigmatized identities imagine and construct an individual and collective sense of self. A reception and book signing will follow.

The event is co-sponsored by Race Scholars at Rice, part of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research; Rice’s Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality; Rice’s Department of Sociology; OutSmart magazine; KPFT’s “Queer Voices”; and the Houston Public Library.
