Race and sexuality will be topics of discussion when Rice hosts “An Evening with Mignon R. Moore” Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in Herring Hall, Room 100.
Moore, a sociology professor at the University of California–Los Angeles and author of “Invisible Families: Gay Identities, Relationships and Motherhood among Black Women,” will discuss how people with multiple stigmatized identities imagine and construct an individual and collective sense of self. A reception and book signing will follow.
The event is co-sponsored by Race Scholars at Rice, part of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research; Rice’s Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality; Rice’s Department of Sociology; OutSmart magazine; KPFT’s “Queer Voices”; and the Houston Public Library.
