Rice’s United Way campaign officially under way

Rice University officially launched its United Way 2011-12 campaign
Sept. 9 as members of the Rice community joined more than 2,000
attendees at Minute Maid Park at the United Way of Greater Houston’s
campaign kickoff. Rice has made an impressive start, already raising
$22,683 toward its $150,000 campaign goal. With 18 weeks remaining in
the campaign, the Office of Finance leads the campus in funds raised
with $5,145, and the Public Affairs Division leads in participation,
with 19 percent.

University
Representative Y. Ping Sun, lead donor chair for Rice’s United Way
campaign and a member of the United Way of Greater Houston board,
cheered the event from the stage. President David Leebron, Rice Board of
Trustees Chair Jim Crownover ’65 and Provost George McLendon are the
honorary chairs for Rice’s United Way campaign.

Rice employees’ contributions to United Way not only help
the entire Houston community, they also support the university’s Vision
for the Second Century commitment to engaging with the city.

Rice
employees can make a pledge payable by payroll deductions spread over
all paychecks in calendar (and tax) year 2012 by logging in to ESTHER
(esther.rice.edu) and filling out the United Way form. To make a cash,
check or credit card contribution (for tax year 2011), complete, print
and mail the pledge form found at www.rice.edu/unitedway.
